Two Types of Computer Network?

 The Two Types of Computer Network are Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN).

LAN and WAN are completely two different type of network and the foundations of the difference between these two-network types are what this article wish you should know after reading it. 

LAN: Local Area Network

In information, this type of network is not competent of providing network to a very faraway distance. It is only limited to certain places, usually, office, home, schools or group buildings and cannot serve further than that. Although at hand advanced technology work has provided larger LAN, but it was divided into what is called “workgroups” by practical administration.

What is a Workgroup? Sales department and limited companies as example, who are using only a single file and database over a LAN network is a workgroup.

WAN: Wide Area Network. 

WANS networks, covers a very outsized area than LANS. WAN is good to make use of for people who wants to share communication link but living in a far distance area. Even some networking engineers define WAN as any network that requests the use of routers and public links.

Difference between LAN and WAN: 

Speed: LAN has a very high speed of (1000mbps) why WAN has less speed of (150mbps)

Data Transfer Rates: LAN has a high data transfer rate why WAN have a lower of it.

Technology: LAN is likely to make use of connectivity technologies such as token ring and Ethernet, while WAN make use of technology such as ATM, FRAME, RELAY, MPLS, and X.25 in serving connections over long distance. 

Connection: you can connect your LAN to another LANS network over any distance with the possibility of telephone lines or radio waves but the possibility of connecting computers to a WAN is mainly through public networks usually Telephones system and through satellites.

Components: LAN have what is known as layer 2 device like switches, bridges and layer 1 devices like hubs or repeaters. WAN have layers 3 devices routers, multi-layers switches and some specified technology devices known as ATM or Frame-Relay switches.

Fault Acceptance: cool to know that LANS have less problems compare to WANS. 

Data Transmission Error: LANS encounter less data transmission errors as compared to WANS.

Ownership: LANS are always owned or managed by an individual why WANS (like the internet) is not managed by an individual. Rather, distributed ownership and management manage it over far distance. 

Set-up Cost: still if you are contemplating of connecting couple of additional devices with a LAN network, do not bother about the price because it is less expensive; not outrageous. However, WAN is expensive since networks in remote areas have to be connected.

Maintenance Cost: since LANS only work within certain geography, its maintenance cost is very low while maintaining WAN is very outrageous due to the wider geography coverage it covers.

Classically, LANS utilizes half-duplex communications, however, most local area networks, presently, utilize full-duplex communications.
